Please make sure that your student is practicing those multiplication facts! When a student has them committed to memory, math becomes less of a challenge. This is especially true in 5th grade when so many of our skills require multiplication in some way.
We use a program in class called Mad Minutes. Monday-Thursday students will have 1 minute to answer 30 multiplication questions focusing on a certain set of facts. Those days are for practice only and will not be graded. On Friday, they will have 2 minutes to answer 60 multiplication questions. I will grade on Friday, and if students miss 5 or less, they will move on to the next set of facts. If they miss more than 5, they will be assigned practice problems and will remain on the same set of multiplication facts the following week until they pass.
I also enroll students in an online program called XtraMath. The link for this site can be found under the Educational Websites tab on my page. This program can also be used at home! Students will receive their login info, but if you need another copy of it, please let me know!
